Health and Safety Speaker in Construction

Dylan, many thanks for the talk at my work on Monday, it was eye opening, usually when we have toolbox talks it's a brief spiel from management and a few A4 handouts, they are taken in but soon forgotten about. Your story really hit home, it was eye opening and frightening at the same time, it's the only toolbox talk I reckon will stick in my mind (don't think I'll ever forget it) From your AR*SEHOLE of a boss with his lies and duplicitous behaviour to the horrendous accident and injuries you suffered....what sickened me was your treatment by the state, a hard working tax paying citizen, truly disgusting... and the insurance companies, sickening treatment, harassing bullies.....what I really want to say is that you're an inspiration, you've turned a horrible life changing accident into something to be admired. Most folk would lie down and feel sorry for themselves, you've been given lemons and turned it into lemonade. I know plenty of people (family included) who can and should work and pay tax but who chose to cheat/lie and let us MUGS pay to keep them in the life they've became accustomed to, they simply have no pride... in future I'll be using your story to try shame the like of these people, a MAN who is 40% disabled and has gone on to create his own company and make his own way in life. Again you're an inspiration, and to all those folk who feel sorry for themselves look at you and get on with living life. Thanks

We have had excellent feedback from our guys and supply chain. Your chat with them made them think about H&S and what occurs after an accident. Your journey shocked a number of them! Some comments back from our guys on site are as follows: I will not start work if I don't think what I am doing is safe! I will take 5 to check that what I am doing is safe! Dylan is an inspiration and he really tells it as it is. We need to hear this side of the accident! Your health is more important than the money!

Firstly thank you so much for yesterday, I know that people sitting in front of me were nodding in agreement to what you said. Also when I've asked around today what people thought of the day you were mentioned several times.

I can't thank you enough for the fantastic motivation speech you delivered at our Southampton project to our site operatives and staff. I have had some great feedback from some of those who have listened to your personal story and how this has influenced their right to be safe at work and to go home to their love ones.  

Big wake up call. It made me stop and think a bit more. It was 100 times better seeing it first hand rather than watching a video and you can actually ask questions.

Having watched you twice I have to say it is both a formidable and inspirational talk that you conveyed. I felt that the message behind what you say is very potent and certainly makes people think about the risks that they take. Your input is going to make my H&S Strategy a more congenial message and the safety climate survey should give us a real insight into the way we deal with H&S within our LCO. Thank you for your story its extraordinary and will live with me for many years to come I am sure.

Hi Dylan. Just wanted to say thanks for an informative and moving presentation yesterday in Epsom. Have to confess, I left the room when you were doing the graphic detail bit or I’d have been another ‘fainted’ stat for you. You do something vital and I greatly admire you for facing and reliving the worst day of your life so frequently, in the name of helping others. I was in the canteen during your talk today for Willmott Dixon at Chelsea Design Centre. Just wanted to say, it is a powerful message that you bring across, and you bring it in a way that everyone can relate to. Thanks for coming down and sharing your story, I think it really hit home with the guys here. I didn't get a chance to get your details off of the screen before you changed slides, so looked you up on the internet.  

Thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. Real life stories are far more powerful than PowerPoint presentations.

Dylan, I remember sitting in one of your seminars whilst at Willmott Dixon and seeing a group of normally very gobby alpha males go very silent. Your story packs a powerful message and unlike many other seminars I have been on, I haven’t forgotten it.

All the lads I spoke to today, as a normal part of the engagement, said that you have thrown a completely different light on the way they view H&S and their own responsibility so you do make a big difference. Several stopped me and our construction manager to say how important they thought it was and how well you put it across in a language they can relate to.
